ARL-2645 Octopus Mucus Chain Lube
Octopus Mucus Chain Lube by Aronson Racing Lab
In dirt oval kart racing, every bit of rolling resistance matters. Octopus Mucus is a lightweight, low-viscosity chain lubricant developed exclusively for racing go-karts, where traditional thick, sticky chain lubricants can attract clay, sand, and abrasive debris.
Designed for racing performance rather than extended lubrication intervals, Mucus is formulated to penetrate chain links, lubricate pins and rollers, and minimize heavy residue that traps track contaminants. Its thin consistency makes it ideal for race-day chain maintenance and quick reapplication between practice, qualifying, and feature races.
- Developed exclusively for racing go-karts
- Lightweight, low-viscosity chain lubricant
- Intended to reduce friction between chain pins, rollers, and links
- Thin formula designed to minimize dirt and grit accumulation
- Designed for frequent cleaning and reapplication between racing sessions
- Supplied in an 8 oz squirt bottles
- Developed and tested at Aronson Racing Lab
Instructions for Use
Initial Chain Preparation — 48-Hour Soak
-
Clean and Dry: Begin with a thoroughly cleaned and completely dry racing kart chain. Remove all existing lubricants, dirt, and debris before soaking.
-
Submerge Chain: Place the chain into a suitable chemical-resistant container and completely submerge it in Octopus Mucus. Allow the chain to soak for 48 hours.
-
Agitate Chain: After the first 8 hours of soaking, agitate the chain within the lubricant at least twice during the remaining soaking period. This helps dislodge trapped air bubbles and allows the lubricant to reach the internal pins, rollers, and hinge points.
-
Drain Excess Lubricant: After 48 hours, remove the chain and allow it to drain until no additional lubricant drips from the chain.
-
Wipe Chain: Using a clean, dry cloth, wipe away excess lubricant from the exterior of the chain.
-
Install Chain: Install the lubricated chain onto the racing kart.
Race-Day Cleaning & Reapplication
-
Clean Chain: With the engine off, apply brake cleaner to the chain to remove accumulated dirt, debris, and contaminated lubricant. Wipe the chain with a clean cloth.
-
Dry Chain: Using forced air at a controlled pressure, thoroughly dry the chain, paying particular attention to the center links, rollers, and pin connections.
-
Repeat if Necessary: Heavily contaminated chains may require multiple cleaning and drying cycles. Continue until no dirty lubricant or debris is expelled from the chain when using forced air.
-
Apply Octopus Mucus: With the engine off, manually rotate the rear axle while applying Octopus Mucus evenly along the chain. Ensure the lubricant reaches the center links and both sides of every pin and hinge point.
-
Ensure Complete Coverage: All chain links should be coated with a thin, even layer of lubricant. Pay particular attention to the areas where the chain articulates around the sprockets.
-
Remove Excess Lubricant: Using a clean, dry cloth, gently wrap and squeeze the cloth around the chain while manually rotating the axle. This removes excess surface lubricant while leaving a thin lubricating film.
-
Repeat as Needed: Repeat the entire cleaning, drying, lubrication, and wiping procedure whenever the chain requires maintenance throughout race day.
Important Information
FOR RACING GO-KART USE ONLY. Octopus Mucus is developed specifically for race kart chain applications requiring frequent maintenance. It is not intended for motorcycles, ATVs, recreational off-road vehicles, or extended-interval chain lubrication.
Safety: Use brake cleaner and Octopus Mucus only in a well-ventilated area away from sparks, flames, hot exhaust components, and other ignition sources. Follow the brake cleaner manufacturer's instructions. Wear appropriate eye protection when using forced air, and ensure all cleaning solvent has evaporated before relubricating. Never operate the engine while cleaning, lubricating, or wiping the chain.
