ARL Custom Exhaust Megaphone

The Aronson Racing Lab Exhaust Megaphone is not a universal bolt-on component. Every megaphone is engineered and built to order around the specific vehicle, engine combination, exhaust system, intended operating range, and available installation space.

Megaphone dimensions are selected according to the characteristics of the build, including the target RPM range, naturally aspirated, turbocharged, or supercharged configuration, engine combination and power level, exhaust tube diameter, exhaust system layout, available packaging space, and intended vehicle use.

The taper, expansion rate, outlet diameter, and overall geometry of a megaphone directly affect exhaust gas expansion and pressure-wave behavior. Because of this, ARL does not use a one-size-fits-all megaphone design. A megaphone designed for a high-RPM naturally aspirated engine should not simply be duplicated for a turbocharged or supercharged combination and expected to produce the same results.

Each ARL megaphone is designed as part of the complete exhaust system, with the goal of maintaining maximum practical exhaust flow while targeting the desired operating characteristics of the individual build.

Designed in-house using CAD and application-specific calculations, tested in real-world applications, and manufactured in-house by Aronson Racing Lab.

Intended Use

Designed for naturally aspirated performance and race engines, turbocharged combinations, supercharged/blower applications, and custom exhaust systems where exhaust flow, pressure-wave behavior, packaging, and operating range are important to the overall system design.

Every ARL megaphone is built to order. There is no universal ARL megaphone specification because the required geometry is determined by the individual engine combination, exhaust system, target operating range, and available installation space.

Megaphone Ordering & Fitment Requirements

Customers must contact Aronson Racing Lab before ordering a custom megaphone.

Before the megaphone can be designed, the customer must provide information about the vehicle and engine combination as well as the  maximum available working envelope surrounding the intended installation location.

Required clearance information includes:

• Available clearance above and below
• Available clearance left and right
• Available clearance forward and rearward

For example, an application may have 8" of available clearance above, below, left, and right, with 30" of available clearance forward and rearward.

These dimensions are critical because available space can directly affect the maximum outlet diameter, expansion angle, cone length, taper, and overall megaphone geometry that can physically be incorporated into the vehicle.

RPM Range & Packaging Limitations

The customer's requested RPM range will be used as the design target whenever the available space permits the required geometry.

However, available installation space may prevent the theoretically preferred megaphone dimensions from being used. In these situations, vehicle packaging can dictate the expansion angle, outlet diameter, cone length, and other design parameters.

When the available space prevents the ideal geometry from being used, Aronson Racing Lab will design the megaphone as close to the requested RPM range and intended performance characteristics as the available working envelope reasonably allows.

By ordering a custom megaphone, the customer acknowledges that vehicle packaging limitations may take priority over the theoretical optimum geometry and may affect how closely the final design can target the requested operating range.

Do not place an order until the engine combination, intended use, target operating range, and available working area have been discussed with Aronson Racing Lab.

Please verify all measurements, connection types, and exhaust-system layout before ordering. Custom-welded components cannot be returned or exchanged due to incorrect sizing, fitment, or customer planning errors.
